A realization the other day came to mind when I looked at my heading. Where are the sketches? I've been slacking hardcore about showing any kind of proof that I can even draw. My pants will eventually be on fire if I don't do something about it, and pants are expensive. So without further delay, we'll come to the first of the sketch turned artwork.

If the names Antoine de Saint-Exupery or The Little Prince sound familiar to you, then this will be a brief nostalgic moment. If not, then I suggest you to check it out even though it's a children's book. We're all kids at heart, right? Either way, it's aesthetically pleasing and a nice tribute. A little background story, I made this with the intention to give as a gift to a friend who loved the book...a year or so later I finally got around to it. (There's that slacker in me again)

Photo from the book that I referenced:

And my little re-creation:
Totally bigger in real life and not insanely tiny like this, promise.

It took me so long to just make those pen strokes imitating the original style. I held my pen and just stared at the sketches before even inking it for fear that it would only end in frustration and tears.

Since the flash was blocking out the colors I spray painted for the background, this is what the glossy deep space looks like. It's so hard to justify how good this looks in real life compared to pictures, I couldn't get a single good photo of the drawings and the background. It was one or the other.

You can't really tell, but there are push-pins underneath the drawings which gives it that pop out 3D effect. One is peeking out at the top right!

And there you have it! I'll post more pictures of it on Facebook, but here's a little glimpse of what I've been doing lately. It was a really fun project to work on. My friend was extremely excited about this piece (particularly because I had told her to come over on a whim and surprised the bajeezus out of her) , and the little prince is now proudly hanging in her apartment for all to see.
